Our February AIChE activity will be a tour of the new Indianapolis Star Pulliam Production Center where they print their newspaper. We will be joining the tour with the Scientech scientists and engineers. Plant tours are always fascinating and a broadening, learning experience so please make an effort to attend.

What You Missed ?
We had a fascinating discussion of various aspects of risk management from Tony Havics of PH2 Environmental, Inc. on January 22. There were many pearls of wisdom including ninety percent of risk management is knowing where to place the decimal. He mentioned having a single focus. Rest once in a while and honor authority. Do not kill the symptoms or the messenger. Maintain technical accuracy to suit the audience. Watch out for coveting, do not make a research project out of a construction or production project. Things will go wrong and you will not know all the answers. Industrial examples were given including black mold where hand to mouth contact is very bad. Tests with 2,4 DCP done at room temperature did not show the extreme danger for human exposure when the chemical was hot.
