Message from the Local Indianapolis AIChE President
This month's topic will be:
Chemical Engineering Careers and Experiences
Our speakers will be:
Our AIChE student chapter advisor, Becky Smith, from Eli Lilly and Alan have helped to arrange a joint meeting between our local section and chemical engineering students from Purdue University and Rose Hulman. We have received $250 from AIChE National as a Project Connects Grant to promote student and local chapter interactions. The money will be used to provide food and soda or juice to help encourage students and our local chapter members to come. The whole theme of this meeting is to share our job experiences with the students and give them time to ask questions. Members attending the meeting will have the opportunity, if they would like, to talk for a few minutes about their background and current job. This is our chance to make sure that students don't forget about AIChE when they graduate!
The student chapter representative, Kendra Schmitz, Vice President Purdue AIChE, notes that they are excited to have the Indy AIChE chapter on campus to speak about chemical engineering careers. They also wish to hear about AIChE after graduation and how they can get involved as professionals.

What Some Missed
Indianapolis Star Pulliam Production Facility Tour
The scale and multiple steps of the printing operation were quite impressive for our February 24 joint tour with Scientech of the newspaper production facility. The four 75,000-copy-per-hour Geoman presses were six stories in height, came from Man Roland in Ausburg, Germany, and cost $72 million. There were multiple control workstations to adjust newspaper print quality. Track conveyors, folding, and inserting equipment were part of the operation. In the paper storage area, the huge paper rolls stacked six high with brown outer wrappers appeared as if someone were trying to reassemble the original tree!
Our February AIChE activity will be a tour of the new Indianapolis Star Pulliam Production Center where they print their newspaper. We will be joining the tour with the Scientech scientists and engineers. Plant tours are always fascinating and a broadening, learning experience so please make an effort to attend.
