Chairman’s Message
Thank you for your continued support and interest in AIChE and the Indianapolis Section. We look forward to a great year of activities including plant tours, speakers, and other events. Officers that were elected at our last meeting in May to serve this year are Tom Leas for Chairman, Alan Schmidt for Vice-Chairman, and John Elliott for Secretary/Treasurer. Daniel Harper will become past-Chairman, which is also a member of the executive committee along with the elected officers. Other officers include Karl Schnelle as Webmaster, Christopher Burcham as Roster/Membership and Becky Smith as Student Chapter Advisor. Please come and enjoy dinner with us on September 19. Congratulations to Kevin Keating on receiving the 2005/2006 Chemical Engineer of the Year Award from the Indianapolis Section.
I attended the 2006 Leadership Development Conference of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers held at Houston, Texas on June 2 – 4, 2006. Approximately 70 people were in attendance, including attendees from the national office, AIChE Board Members, and officers of other local sections. Highlights from the conference will be discussed at this months meeting.

Election Ballots Being Mailed
Position statements and
bios of candidates for president-elect, secretary and director for the 2007
election are available on the web at http://www.aiche.org/candidates/. Paper
ballots are being mailed to all fellows, senior members and members. Members
can choose to vote by paper ballot or electronic proxy. Members may cast one
vote only. Results will be announced at the AIChE Annual Meeting in November
and in the December issue of CEP magazine. ![]()

AIChE 2006 Annual Meeting, November 12-17, San Francisco, CA
For R&D professionals, AIChE’s Annual Meeting provides an open forum to present papers to fellow engineers and scientists from around the world. For students, the national conference is the ideal place to learn, network and receive recognition. This year, experts and thought leaders from around the world representing government and industry will be on hand to participate in the Industry and Government Leaders Roundtable on the Future of Chemical Engineering. The Society for Biological Engineering (SBE) invites you to submit your
abstract for the First International Conference on Biomolecular Engineering
(ICBE)
January
14-18, 2007 at the Marriott Coronado Island Resort in San Diego, CA. This
conference brings together researchers using quantitative approaches to advance
the understanding and application of biology at the molecular level

information and to submit an abstract. The Call for Papers is scheduled to
close September 15, 2006.
Call for Officers
We are looking for members who would like to become officers for the 2006-2007
year including those wishing to start the climb to the role of Section
Chairmanship. There are committee chair openings, if you can help or have
an interest please contact one of the Section Officers.
Science and
Engineering Presentations:
There are interesting scientific or
engineering presentations given during lunch time at Scientech every Monday
except for major holidays. The Scientech meetings have a $9 buffet starting
from 11:30 to noon, and then there are introductions and the presentation from
12:10 to 1:00 PM.
