From the Chairman …
On April 16, Alan Schmidt, our past Section Chairman, and I traveled to West Lafayette for an evening meeting with Purdue’s student chapter of the AIChE. Bribed by a couple of party trays from Jimmie John’s, approximately 20 chemical engineering students attended the meeting. We discussed graduate school, various career paths in chemical engineering, and the students’ potential roles in shaping our country’s energy policies in the future.
I want to thank the officers of the Purdue student chapter for organizing the meeting, especially Jeff Livarchik and Bill Theodosopoulos. In addition, thank you to Alan for sharing his experiences and to Professors Albright (retired) and Varma (current head of the ChE school) for providing their insights. I enjoyed the meeting, and I hope that it was beneficial for the students.
Our next event will be an Indianapolis Indians baseball game at Victory Field on Monday, May 18. The opponent is Syracuse. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. We will purchase a group of tickets for box seats ($13 each) so that we can sit together. If you are interested in attending the game, please call me or send an e-mail, preferably by May 11. Family members and friends are also invited.
If you have any questions, or if you have suggestions for plant tours or guest speakers for future meetings, please contact me via e-mail at mike.wertz [at] heritage-enviro.com or by phone at (317) 486-2778.
