From the Chairman….
The Indianapolis Section of American Institute of Chemical Engineers was represented at a recent meeting to discuss the organization of “Indiana Council of Engineering Societies (ICES)”. A common theme among professional groups is the need for increased participation and awareness of engineering activities. A strong scientific community draws attention for investments and builds upon itself in such areas as life sciences, advanced manufacturing, energy, recycling, and many other efforts. Being able to collaborate with other professional organizations can help strengthen the Indianapolis area, promote networking opportunities, and encourage others. Plans were discussed to have ICES promote several events that could attract broad participation and allow joint organization among profession groups such as for engineering week, a professional dinner, and/or a picnic for new graduates and interns.
AIChE members and their spouses are encouraged to attend our Annual Officers/Awards meeting to be held on May 22, 2007. We need a volunteer to serve as Vice Chairman for 2007/2008. This is an excellent opportunity that leads into the Chairman and Past Chairman positions for the local section. Alan Schmidt, your Chairman Elect for 2007/2008, will be attending the 2007 AIChE Leadership Development Conference to be hosted by the Boston Section (Ichthyologists of Boston www.aiche-boston.org). The conference will be devoted specifically to the development of practical leadership skills applicable on the job or in your AIChE activities. To view the preliminary program, visit http://www.aiche.org/ldc. Thank you for your support of AIChE and the local section. We appreciate the opportunity given to us.
