Presentation: National Engineers Week will be celebrated February 15-21, 2009. Once again, The IEEE Central Indiana Section is teaming up with The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, to increase public awareness about Engineering and to help young students consider Engineering as a career option.
Our program will be held at The Children’s Museum on Saturday, February 14th, from 10:00 - 3:00. We are looking for volunteers to help with our program. Our program consists of engineers being stationed near several exhibits throughout the museum. Each station will tie an engineering discipline in with that exhibit. There will be "hands on" items at our stations as well. Volunteers will be there to talk with visitors, answer any questions about engineering, hand out materials and to validate visitor’s cards. Visitors to the museum will be given a “schematic” upon entering the museum, and after successfully visiting all of our engineering stations, and turning in their cards, they’ll be eligible for prizes to be given away through a drawing at 3:00 pm that day.
RSVP: Please RSVP by February 13 to Mike Wertz via e-mail at mike.wertz at heritage-enviro.com
or by phone at (317) 486-2778.
From the Chairman … At last month’s meeting,
former Section Chairman Tom Leas discussed a catalytic gasification process for
the conversion of coal, petroleum coke, residual oils, and biomass into hydrogen-enriched
syngas (H2-syngas). If you would like a copy of the slides from the
presentation, please contact Tom at tleas at indy.rr.com. On Saturday February 14 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., we
will participate in the National Engineers Day event at the Children's
Museum in Indianapolis. We will have a table with some hands-on chemistry
experiments for children. If you would like to volunteer to help us at
the table, please contact me. This event will take the place of our Local
Section Meeting for February. Another potential meeting of
interest in February is the Indiana Section of the American Chemical
Society’s “Chocolate – The Food of The Gods.” The
meeting, which will include a chocolate tasting and raffle of a 10-pound
chocolate bar, will take place on Thursday February 12 at 7:00 p.m. at University High School – Andrews Hall (2825 West 116th Street). No need
to RSVP. For AIChE members who
occasionally attend weekly Scientech meetings: Please note that their meeting
location has changed to the Knights of Columbus Building at 2100 East 71st
Street in Indianapolis. If you have any questions, or if
you have suggestions for plant tours or guest speakers for future AIChE
meetings, please contact me via e-mail at mike.wertz at heritage-enviro.com
or by phone at (317) 486-2778. Mike Wertz Section Chairman, Indianapolis AIChE Back On the Web – Indianapolis AIChE – Local Section
