Presentation: Chancellor Charles Bantz will be speaking about - Cities and the Talent Divide - What a difference increasing educational attainment 1% would make in just the 51 largest cities in the U.S. We could increase the annual income by $124 billion per year. CEO'S for Cities and its partners in Indianapolis – Central Indiana Community Foundation (CICF) and IUPUI – are joining together to work toward this goal. A goal that aligns with the Lumina Foundation’s big goal of 60% of adults with college degrees by 2025.
Biography from IUPUI: Charles Bantz became chancellor of IUPUI in 2003.
A highlight of his academic leadership is elevating the public perception of IUPUI as “Destination Health and Life Sciences” and strategically focusing campus efforts in areas of economic development important to the state.
Another focus has been enhancing undergraduate education. He has been an eloquent advocate for undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs that help keep graduates in Indiana. He has been active in fostering diversity and encouraging better math, science, engineering, and technology education.
He is deeply involved in the community through service on the Executive Committee of the United Way of Central Indiana and several other boards.
He has been active nationally on matters of importance to the higher education community, including being a member of the NCAA Division I Board of Directors and its Executive Committee and Finance Committee. He is also a member of the American Council on Education's Commission on International Initiatives.
He holds a bachelor's degree in English education from the University of Minnesota, a master's degree in speech communication from the University of Minnesota, and a Ph.D. from Ohio State University in communication. He is an accomplished scholar who has published on subjects such as organizational communication, television news, and social conflict.
About Scientech: This will be a joint meeting of our local AIChE with the Scientech Club (www.scientechclub.org), which regularly meets every Monday for a buffet and presentation. Scientech is in its 91st year as a forum for the exchange of information in the scientific and technical fields. Scientech also supports local science fair judging. Scientech membership is open to all persons interested in scientific and technical subjects.
RSVP: Please call Dr. Alan D. Schmidt, at (317) 233-5190 by Friday, Jan 8 with your intention of attending, any questions on Scientech, or interest in future meetings. The approximately 70 regularly attending Scientech members do not make reservations, but we will be an extra pulse of attendees that we need to estimate for the food and table count.
Price: $10.00 (or $2.00 for beverages only), payable at the door.
From the Chairman …
Thank you for your interest and support of activities by the Indianapolis Section of American Institute of Chemical Engineers.
